If matching rivets aren't available, plain uncoated rivets may be used.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch2\u003e♻️ Making Good Use of Industrial Steel\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWhere possible, I love being able to turn perfectly useful pieces of coated steel left over from our roofing and cladding materials into something completely different.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eRather than suitable offcuts heading towards the scrap metal bin, they can become planters and spend the next chapter of their lives filled with flowers!\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBecause of the nature of these materials and the handmade manufacturing process, you may occasionally find a small scratch, mark or little dent.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eNothing that affects the planter's use – just the occasional reminder that this isn't a piece of mass-produced plastic fresh from a mould.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWhere suitable offcuts aren't available, I also make planters from new prime material.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch2\u003e💧 Built-In Natural Drainage\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe planter is constructed in sections and \u003cstrong\u003ehand riveted together\u003c\/strong\u003e.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe base is intentionally left unsealed along three lower edges, allowing excess rain and watering to escape naturally.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis means I don't need to drill drainage holes through the bottom of the planter.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003ePlease note:\u003c\/strong\u003e the planter is water resistant and designed for outdoor planting, but it is \u003cstrong\u003enot watertight\u003c\/strong\u003e and shouldn't be used as a pond or water trough.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch2\u003e🪴 How I Recommend Planting It\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eI recommend adding a \u003cstrong\u003eloose, oversized piece of pond liner\u003c\/strong\u003e inside the planter before filling it.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThere's no need to spend ages measuring it perfectly.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSimply sit the liner loosely inside, add your drainage material or pebbles, followed by compost and your plants. As everything fills and settles, the liner will naturally find its shape.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOnce you're happy, trim away any excess liner around the top and replace the rubber edging.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe liner doesn't need to turn the planter into a sealed container – you still want excess water to be able to escape.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eFor a quick alternative, some customers use household foil, and others choose to add bathroom sealant around the internal seams depending on their intended use.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch2\u003e🖤 Removable Black Safety Trim\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eI include a \u003cstrong\u003ethin black rubber safety trim for the top rim\u003c\/strong\u003e of the planter.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBecause this is folded sheet steel, exposed edges can be sharp. I therefore recommend keeping the trim fitted while handling and planting the trough.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOnce everything is safely in position, you can simply leave it on or remove it if you prefer the appearance without it.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIt's entirely up to you.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch2\u003e🌦️ Tough Enough For Outdoor Use\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe Plastisol-coated steel is a tough industrial material designed to cope with the British weather, making it an excellent choice for an outdoor garden planter.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eUnlike lightweight plastic pots, the metal construction also gives the trough a lovely substantial appearance.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003ePlease remember, though, that this is a \u003cstrong\u003ehandmade garden product\u003c\/strong\u003e.
